Crawford College Pretoria continues its golden streak! We are proud to announce the outstanding achievement of our Senior Debating Team who have been declared the provincial Champions for the Model United Nations Debating Competition which was held on the 29th August at the Gauteng Provincial legislature in Johannesburg.

Two Crawford College Pretoria’s debaters teamed up with Voortrekkerhoogte High School to participate in an intense Model United Nations Debate. The four fiesty young debaters: Mayuri Ramnarain, Karabo Nkoane (Crawford College Pretoria), John Moreocheni and Christian Tereze (Voortrekkerhoogte High) came up trumps in the Competition by beating 16 other high schools and have now earned the honour of being Gauteng’s champs. This victory in verbal jousting will culminate in the debaters representing Gauteng at the International Conference to be held from the 15-20 October in Cape Town.

The Model UN is a debating conference which is based on the principles and format of a UN General Assembly debate, with a focus on international relations and human rights issues. Each team consists of a partnership of two schools: two students from a resourced school and two from an under-resourced school. This combination promotes cross-cultural exchange and encourages tolerance and peace amongst students.

The participants emulated actual Nigerian diplomats and were expected to resolve complex human rights problems in their allotted country. The efficient team engaged debaters from 16 other leading schools in Gauteng in what was described as one of the most highly competitive Provincial debates. However, these very confident speakers emerged unscathed, being placed first. Gauteng is indeed proud of these four young Ambassadors!
