Crawford Preparatory North Coast hosted our very first Music in the Park and Night Market, which was a great success and one of the highlights of our year so far.
Our young musicians played their hearts out to a very receptive audience at various outdoor venues around the Preparatory School. Our orchestra got the evening off to a wonderful beginning and from there our singers, choir, guitarists, violinists, saxophonists, recorders, percussionists, pianists, guitarists and drummers entertained everybody for the duration of the evening. The field was a hive of activity with stalls selling their wares and Laser Rush being a very popular game for those of all ages. Some of our Grade 7 pupils took the opportunity to put their leadership skills to the test and ran their own stalls very successfully, to help raise funds for the 2017 Grade 7 Farewell.
Our students were delighted to hear music of all genres. One of the questions from a Preparatory student was whether the Orchestra could play a piece from Indiana Jones – the answer was that with the score (sheet music) in front of them, the members of the Orchestra can play any genre of music. The concert started off with the Star Wars Medley, a brief introduction to all instruments showing off the string section with Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, Gounod’s piece for Woodwind and Brass, a percussion demo on Timpani and Drum kit by our own Stephan Pechoux, Pirates of the Caribbean medley, Pharrell’s Happy, ending off with our students singing the National Anthem accompanied by the Orchestra.
Our Grade 3s arrived wearing the colours of the French flag in celebration of French Day. Pupils dressed up as famous French personalities, artiest and fashinoistas. There was an impressive exhibition of the finest French cuisine set up along the corridors, depicting the famous pavement style French Cafés. The children enjoyed construction Eiffel Towers out of Marshmallows and tooth picks. Au Revoir!
