School: Crawford College Sandton
Arushi Raina grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa, and matriculated from Crawford College Sandton in 2009. She’s also lived in Egypt, Nigeria, India, the UK, US and most recently, Canada.
When asked what she does, she says that she is a “closet writer”, just because she have a crazy day job in management consulting.
She is an avid reader. She says she likes intricate plots, flawed characters, chases, escapes and sentences that just make you stop and wonder about everything.
Her intense love for books and reading inspired her to, publish one of her own. Her debut novel, launched on the 12th of July 2016, titled ‘When Morning Comes’ (Tradewind Books, 2016). The story takes place in Apartheid South Africa on the brink of the 1976 Soweto Uprising—a massive student led protest that would change the country forever. Written from the perspectives of four different teenagers with four very different backgrounds, the book explores questions of status, sacrifice, and the power of youth.
The experts commented that her book is expertly researched and equally well written. ‘When Morning Comes’ is the kind of story that will make you smile, make you think, and maybe even make you cry—very loudly and in public, if your timing is a bit off.
This talented “closet writer”, is definitely leaving audiences across the globe, with heaps of different emotion. We trust that she will again, put her pen to paper for the next novel.
Arushi’s novel is available from Amazon and selected bookstores across South Africa. You can also follow the author on @arushi101
